Tom Kuntz is an Emmy-winning and DGA-honored commercial director working with MJZ since 2001. He is widely recognized as one of advertising's preeminent comedy specialists, known for surreal, absurdist work blending high-concept humor with meticulous craft. Kuntz directed the iconic 2010 Old Spice spot "The Man Your Man Could Smell Like" with Isaiah Mustafa, which won the Emmy for Commercial of the Year and a Cannes Grand Prix for film. His campaigns for Apple include the dystopian "Appocalypse" (2017 WWDC), the 2023 Timothée Chalamet "Call Me" spot, and 2024 MacBook work. He created Cadbury's deadpan "Eyebrows" (2009), Heineken's epic "The Odyssey" (2014) and Bond-parody "The Chase" (2015), IKEA's rapping-clutter "Silence The Critics" (2019), and memorably strange Skittles work including "Touch" (2008 Creativity Award winner). He won the 2009 DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials and was nominated for DGA Best Commercial Director five times (2007, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2016). His signature style features colorful settings, time-lapse photography, wildly eccentric characters, and fearless embrace of the bizarre. Beyond advertising, Kuntz directed influential music videos for The Avalanches, Electric Six, LCD Soundsystem, and MGMT, and owns the Los Angeles independent record label Pinchy & Friends.
