Bio & background

Yael Staav is a Toronto-based commercial and television director whose career launched with the 2007 Cannes Lions Grand Prix-winning Dove "Evolution" campaign—the first work to win double Grand Prix honors in both Film and Cyber categories. The viral short film generated an estimated $150 million in earned media and was later named among Ad Age's top 15 ad campaigns of the 21st century. Since then, Staav has directed commercials for Etsy, Campbell's, Coca-Cola, Volkswagen, Delta Faucet, Amazon, M&M Food Market, Publix, Nintendo, Special K, Subaru, and Lilly Pharmaceuticals, collaborating with agencies including 72andSunny, Leo Burnett, Wieden+Kennedy, Saatchi & Saatchi, DDB, and Publicis Groupe. In television, she has directed 12 episodes of CBC's Baroness Von Sketch Show (earning a 2018 Canadian Screen Award and Directors Guild of Canada Award) and 16 episodes of Workin' Moms across seasons 3, 6, and 7. She recently directed all six episodes of SisterS Season 2 as co-executive producer and helmed episodes of One More Time, North of North, and Small Achievable Goals. Staav's directing philosophy centers on capturing emotional truth through ruthless precision, particularly in short-form work where every frame must serve the story.
