Tom Gould is a New Zealand-born director and photographer working with Academy Films (US/UK) and The Sweetshop (NZ/Australia). After spending over a decade working in New York's commercial landscape, Gould returned to Aotearoa around 2020-2021, where he continues creating globally recognized brand work. His career began at Virgin Records before transitioning into music videos and commercial direction. Gould is best known for his 2016 book "Bury Me with the Lo On," the first comprehensive documentation of New York's Lo Lifes crew and Ralph Lauren streetwear culture, which established his approach of finding meaningful stories within brand ecosystems. His commercial clients include Ralph Lauren (2021 Polo Sport Submariner collection shot on New Zealand's West Coast), Adidas (2022 global "Run for the Oceans" campaign), Nike, NBA (2019 Travis Scott campaign), Timberland (2023-2024 "This Is Not A Boot" 47-minute documentary), Canterbury of New Zealand ("The World's Toughest" 2022, "120 Years" 2024), and Air New Zealand (2026 "Pokarekare Ana"). His work spans sports culture, fashion storytelling, and cultural documentation, often featuring authentic community casting and location-based narratives. Films have been exhibited at MoMA, ICA, and the British Film Institute, with two Vimeo Staff Picks recognizing his documentary-inflected commercial approach.
