Tig Terera is a Zimbabwean-born, Melbourne-based writer and director known for creating contemporary Australian stories centered on bold individuals within minority communities. He is Creator, Writer, and Director of Swift Street, an eight-episode crime comedy-drama for SBS produced by Magpie Pictures that had its world premiere in competition at Canneseries 2024. Terera wrote episodes 1, 2, co-wrote 4 and 7, and directed episodes 1-4 of the series, which The Guardian described as an absolute blast. His short film Tinashé premiered at Sydney Film Festival 2021, won a Special Mention at Berlinale 2022, was picked up by Mubi, and won the Erwin Rado Award at Melbourne International Film Festival. His horror short The Moogai won the Midnight Shorts category at SXSW 2021. Terera's commercial work includes the Samsung Night Noir campaign for TikTok, a love story set in Melbourne's Chinatown that won acclaim domestically and overseas. He has created music videos and branded content for Spotify, i-D magazine, Melbourne Fashion Week, and musicians including Lava La Rue and Archie Roach. His filmmaking approach spans quick, hard-hitting, mixed-medium pieces and human stories grounded in authentic performances and cinematic moments.
