Bio & background

Ssong Yang is a Korean American commercial director and docu-narrative filmmaker repped in the US by Station Film. A Rhode Island School of Design graduate, she emerged in 2013 with the award-winning Google Earth brand film Homeward Bound, co-directed with Henry Chen—the Saroo Brierley story that later inspired the Oscar-nominated feature Lion. For more than a decade she and Chen partnered as Henry/Ssong out of Brooklyn, delivering branded content for Google, CVS, Ziploc, American Express, Airbnb, Delta, Abu Dhabi Tourism, Elevit, and Nescafé. Their docu-style everyday-hero aesthetic drew notice from Adweek, Forbes, TED, Cannes Lions, CLIO, Spikes Asia, and the Young Directors Awards; work also aired during the 89th Academy Awards. Yang later moved into solo directing on the Station Film roster. Solo credits include Teleflora’s 2024 Valentine’s Believe in Love campaign for Wonderful Agency—documentary-style interviews with real couples—and the 2019 Women’s Entrepreneurship Day We All Choose film for BBH, plus American Express Robyn’s Cape Crusade with Tiny Superheroes. She has shot in more than 40 countries and completed the DGA Director Development Initiative for episodic television under mentor Rodrigo Garcia. Based in Vermont, she continues commercial work centered on heartfelt, dialogue-driven, documentary-inflected brand films.
