Bio & background

Spike Jonze is an Academy Award-winning director working with MJZ in the US and UK, recognized as one of the most influential voices in commercial and music video production over three decades. His career began in skateboarding photography before transitioning to directing with the foundational 1991 skateboard video *Video Days*. He achieved widespread recognition through iconic music videos including Weezer's "Buddy Holly" (1994), Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" (1994), Björk's "It's Oh So Quiet" (1995), and Fatboy Slim's "Weapon of Choice" (2001), which won six MTV VMAs and a Grammy. His commercial work demonstrates conceptual rigor and emotional depth, exemplified by IKEA's "Lamp" (2002), which won the Grand Prix at Cannes Lions. Recent campaigns include Apple's HomePod "Welcome Home" (2018) featuring FKA Twigs and Kenzo's "The New Perfume" (2016) with Margaret Qualley, both showcasing his signature use of choreography and spatial invention. He won consecutive Directors Guild of America Awards for commercial work in 2018 and 2019. His client roster spans Nike, Adidas, Levi's, Gap, Gucci, ON, Instacart, and Squarespace. Jonze's feature films include *Her* (2013), for which he won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, and *Being John Malkovich* (1999). He co-created MTV's *Jackass* franchise and co-founded Girl Skateboards, maintaining deep ties to skateboarding culture throughout his career.
