Sophie Muller is an English director with more than 300 music videos across three decades and selective commercial and branded work. Trained in graphics at Central Saint Martins, she earned an MA in Film and Television from the Royal College of Art and the J. Walter Thompson creativity prize before entering the industry via Oil Factory. Her breakthrough was Annie Lennox’s Grammy-winning Diva long-form video album and the MTV VMA-winning Why. Commercial and fashion credits include Reebok, L’Oréal campaigns with Beyoncé and Gwen Stefani, Mastercard MasterPass, Lexus, P&G, Gillette Venus with Jennifer Lopez, Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro Shot on iPhone spot featuring Selena Gomez, Target, and Alexander McQueen SS22 Storm Chasing collection films plus Sprint Runner dance pieces. The 2016 Target-sponsored one-take live performance of Gwen Stefani’s Make Me Like You during the Grammy Awards won a Cannes Lion, two AICP Show awards, and a Ciclope Award. Muller favors in-camera effects, handheld intimate performance, minimal storyboards, and self-edits roughly 95 percent of her work. Further honors include a Brit Award and Music Week Award for Shakespears Sister Stay, MVPA and CDA Director of the Year titles, and a Grammy nomination for Sade’s Young Lion. She is working with Prettybird for music video and brand content.
