Sean Baker is an American filmmaker who graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in 1998. He has directed independent features including Tangerine (2015, shot on iPhone 5S), The Florida Project (2017), Red Rocket (2021), and Anora (2024). Anora won the Palme d'Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and swept the 97th Academy Awards with Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing—making Baker the first person to win four Oscars for a single film in one ceremony. He and his wife Samantha Quan won the BAFTA for Best Casting for Anora. In commercial work, Baker has directed spots for Taco Bell (Nacho Fries Fry Again, 2022) and fashion films for Khaite (FW21, 2021) and Kenzo (Snowbird, 2016, shot on iPhone). He is known for location-based storytelling, working with non-professional actors, and humanizing marginalized communities. Baker co-created the sitcom Greg the Bunny and frequently writes, produces, and edits his own work.
