Sasha Rainbow is a New Zealand-born, Los Angeles-based director whose work spans documentaries, features, commercials, and music videos. Her documentary Kamali, following a seven-year-old Indian girl skateboarder, was long-listed for an Academy Award and nominated for a BAFTA, winning Best Documentary at Atlanta Film Festival 2019 and Best Director at Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival. Her first documentary Kofi and Lartey won the Award of Excellence at Impact Docs Awards and The Best Green Short 2020 Award. In 2024, Rainbow made her feature debut with Grafted, a body horror film that won Best Director awards at Terror Molins Film Festival and Brooklyn Horror Fest and premiered on Shudder in January 2025. Her commercial work includes directing the EE Hope United campaign tackling online sexist hate ahead of UEFA Women's Euro 2022, which won a Bronze Clio and earned her the Voice of a Woman Award at Cannes Lions, as well as campaigns for Toyota's Start Your Impossible (the largest campaign in Southeast Asia), Old El Paso, KFC, Puma, Lancôme, Apple, and Stifel. Rainbow's music videos for Placebo, Wild Beasts, Suki Waterhouse, Franz Ferdinand, and Sparks have screened at IDFA and earned UKMVA nominations.
