Samir Mallal is a London-based Canadian director recognized for emotionally resonant, visually immersive commercials, documentaries, and AI-driven content. Over 15 years, he has directed campaigns for Google, General Electric, Starbucks, Coca-Cola, Samsung, Apple, Tropicana, IKEA, Sobeys, and Cone Health, working with BBDO, Droga5, Deutsch, and Publicis. His 2010 Tropicana "Arctic Sun" spot earned a Cannes Gold Lion, D&AD Wood Pencil, Best Young Director at Young Director Awards, and was voted best commercial in Canadian cinema history by TIFF. Before commercials, Mallal co-directed three National Film Board of Canada documentaries: "Discordia" (2004), "Bombay Calling" (2006, Grand Jury Prize at Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles), and "Nollywood Babylon" (2008, Sundance Grand Jury Prize nominee). He created "New Wave," a narrative VR film with interactive voiceover for Within, and co-founded OneDay to explore AI-assisted storytelling, producing "The Decisive Moment: Spiders in the Sky" (2025), a five-minute AI short on Ukraine's Operation Spiderweb. His documentary eye informs commercial craft, prioritizing human truth, distinctive cinematography, and meticulous production values across tech, CPG, healthcare, and cause-driven projects.
