Randy Wilkins is a Bronx-born writer, director, and editor who came up as a Spike Lee collaborator before moving into branded work and documentary series. After NYU film school he was lead editor on Lee’s Netflix series She’s Gotta Have It and the special Rodney King. He directed shorts Harlem’s Blues, Osvaldo’s, and America in Noir, the digital series Docket 32357, and the ESPN 30 for 30/Lil’ Spike Joint 86-32 on Olympian Roy Jones Jr. In September 2020 Bob Industries signed him for U.S. commercial representation; his first advertising project was Major League Baseball’s Jackie Robinson Day tribute, which MLB executives specifically asked him to direct, with narration by Mookie Betts. Additional brand credits include Pepsi’s Holiday Give Back and a spot for The Eye Bank of New York. Prestige TV work includes the series-premiere episode of Apple+’s Dear… (with Spike Lee) plus further episodes, and segment directing on Oprah Winfrey and Prince Harry’s Apple+ series The Me You Can’t See. His highest-profile credit is the 2022 ESPN Films seven-episode docuseries The Captain on Derek Jeter—recommended by Lee—which Wilkins also produced, built from roughly ninety long-form interviews (including Michael Jordan) and extensive archival research.
