Kirby McClure, directing under the name Radical Friend, is a director known for kinetic, visually experimental work across commercials, music videos, and narrative film. A 2007 graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design's Film and Digital Media program, McClure originally formed Radical Friend as a directing duo with Julia Grigorian before continuing solo around 2018-2022. His music video work—including MTV VMA-nominated projects for Yeasayer's "Ambling Alp," Skrillex's "Breakin' A Sweat," and Ho99o9's "Blood Waves"—earned recognition from Filmmaker Magazine's "25 New Faces of Independent Film" (2010) and Rolling Stone Germany's "50 People Who Will Change the Future of Music" (2011). In commercials, McClure has directed campaigns for KFC (the UK "Comeback" spot reviving Colonel Sanders for Mother London), Honda (the Civic Type-R "Disruption" campaign), Lexus (the holographic "Design Disrupted" fashion presentation featuring supermodel Coco Rocha and choreographer Ryan Heffington), Adidas, Instax, AT&T, Taco Bell, Superdry, and Netflix. His work blends practical effects, holographic technology, 3D projection mapping, and choreography with fast-paced editing and vibrant color palettes. McClure wrote and directed the 2023 feature film Spaghetti Junction, now available on Amazon Prime. He is currently working with Revolver Films in Canada (signed April 2025) and previously worked with JOJX and Partizan.
