Quentin Dupieux is a French filmmaker and electronic musician born April 14, 1974 in Paris. He achieved global recognition in 1999 directing and puppeteering the Levi's Sta-Prest jeans commercial featuring Flat Eric, a yellow sock puppet whose head-bobbing movements personified his track "Flat Beat," which reached number one in the UK and won the 1999 Viva Comet Award for Best Advertise. As Mr. Oizo, Dupieux released the influential album Analog Worms Attack (1999) on F Communications, described as the odd link between French house and wonky instrumental hip-hop that became foundational to L.A.'s Low End Theory beat scene. He serves as cinematographer and editor on all his films, which include the absurdist horror-comedy Rubber (2010), Wrong (2012), Reality (2014), and a prolific recent output of French-language features: Deerskin (2019, Cannes Directors' Fortnight), Mandibles (2020, Venice), and two films each in 2022 and 2023. Promoted to Officier de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres by France's Ministry of Culture in 2019, Dupieux has made 14 features since 2007 while maintaining parallel careers in experimental electronic music through labels including Ed Banger Records and Brainfeeder, working entirely on laptop using Logic Pro's factory sounds and self-taught techniques.
