PHC is the directing collaboration of cinematographer John Angus Stewart and producer Max Coles, known for raw, visceral storytelling centered on authentic urban subcultures. Stewart began making films independently on 35mm in a Melbourne squat called Preston House, later working with Australian bands King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Amyl and the Sniffers on 16mm music videos. His documentary *Chunky Shrapnel* (2020) ranked #1 in Letterboxd's 'Official 500 Greatest Movies of All Time.' Stewart's seven narrative shorts have screened at BFI London Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand, Hamburg Kurzfilm Festival, and Frameline LGBTQ Film Festival. PHC's commercial debut came in 2023 for Australian bag brand Crumpler, writing and directing campaigns in Tokyo and Melbourne that earned inclusion in the 2024 Saatchi & Saatchi New Creators Showcase at Cannes Lions—making PHC Films the first Australian production company in 20 years to achieve this honor. This work won Best in Show and Best Direction at the 2024 MADC Showcase, was a 2024 CICLOPE Asia finalist, and contributed to PHC being named joint winner of the 2024 AWARD Awards Emerging Director of the Year. Academy Films signed PHC globally in May 2024, with Good Oil representing Australia and New Zealand. Stewart favors celluloid (35mm and 16mm) and strong flash photography techniques.
