Peter Harton is a New York–born, Copenhagen-based commercial and television director specializing in character-driven comedy. Born in 1974, he started in Danish television crew roles and camera work on commercials, music videos, and features including Lars von Trier’s Dancer in the Dark before assisting directors and making his commercial directing debut in 2004. In 2010 he directed the Danish TV comedy series Rytteriet (The Cavalry), which became the most-watched comedy series on Danish television that year, won the TV Festival Award for best comedy series in 2011, and later received a Danish Academy Award (Robert) for best short-format TV series in 2014. His advertising work spans LEGO, Ikea, Spotify, McDonald’s, Mentos, Copenhagen Metro’s Cityringen campaign (including Walk of Shame passenger-cringe spots), Carletti candy films, Stryhns, Postnord, ALDI, Coop, Føtex, Telenor, Viaplay, TV2, and Danish Cancer Society/TrygFonden sun-safety PSAs “Help a Dane” and kids-cast “Help a Small Dane.” Trade coverage cites Cannes Lions Grand Prix and Gold Lions, Clio, Epica, Ciclope, D&AD, and Creative Circle awards.
