Bio & background

Nicolai Fuglsig is a Danish-born director working with MJZ in the US and UK, known for blending epic cinematic scale with documentary authenticity and practical filmmaking craft. A former war photographer who won the ICP Infinity Award, World Press Photo First Prize, and Kodak Prize for Best Photographer Under 30 for documenting a Russian nuclear disaster, Fuglsig transitioned to directing in 2000. His breakthrough came with Sony Bravia's "Balls" (Fallon London), which cascaded 250,000 bouncy balls down San Francisco streets using 12 cannons and zero computer graphics, winning a Gold Lion at Cannes and being named one of Advertising Age's "Best Commercials of The Decade." He has won two DGA Awards for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials (2007, 2014), an Emmy Award (2013), and over 200 industry accolades including numerous D&AD Yellow Pencils. His work spans Super Bowl spots (Kia with Steven Tyler), military recruitment campaigns for the Royal Marines, British Army, and U.S. Marine Corps using real service members on deployment, and culturally grounded storytelling like Guinness "Sapeurs" documenting Congolese fashion culture. Recent clients include Providence Saint John's Health Center, PlayStation, Xbox, Coca-Cola, and Meta. He directed the 2018 Warner Bros. feature "12 Strong" starring Chris Hemsworth.
