Nadia Hallgren is a New York-based director and cinematographer whose vérité approach spans documentary and branded content. She shot Oscar-nominated Trouble the Water (Sundance Grand Jury Prize), RBG, The Hunting Ground, Motherland, and Trapped before directing. Her debut short After Maria, on families displaced by Hurricane Maria, was Academy Award-shortlisted and Tribeca-nominated. Selected by Michelle Obama and Higher Ground, she directed Netflix’s Becoming (2020), earning four Emmy nominations including Director and Cinematographer—the first person nominated in both for the same project. Later features include Civil (NAACP Best Documentary 2023; News & Documentary Emmy-nominated), Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE, and the Victoria Beckham Netflix docuseries. Through Chelsea Pictures (signed 2020) her brand work includes PUMA’s For All Time series with Walt Frazier, Nike x DICK’S Sporting Goods Sports Change Lives athlete films (Carmelo Anthony, Alex Morgan, A’ja Wilson and others), Audi x Stella McCartney Let’s Make Sense, Adobe’s The Great Untold, a MassMutual Foundation spot, WeTransfer’s The Brown Dog (Michael K. Williams’s final performance), The New Yorker Omnipresence, and PepsiCo’s Super Bowl LV Halftime documentary The Show (The Weeknd), which won Best Director at the 2021 Sundance Brand Storytelling Awards. She holds a SXSW Special Jury Prize, a Webby, Academy membership, and is CEO of Soundview Projects.
