Miguel Arteta is a film and television director working across independent features, half-hour and prestige comedy series, and selective commercials. His Wesleyan student short Every Day Is a Beautiful Day won a Student Academy Award and led Jonathan Demme to hire him as second assistant cameraman; after AFI Conservatory he debuted with Star Maps (1997), which sold to Fox Searchlight at Sundance. Features include Chuck & Buck, The Good Girl (Jennifer Aniston, Jake Gyllenhaal), Youth in Revolt (Michael Cera), Cedar Rapids (Ed Helms, John C. Reilly, Sigourney Weaver), Beatriz at Dinner (Salma Hayek; 2017 Imagen Award for Best Director), Duck Butter, Netflix’s Yes Day (2021), and Disney’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (Steve Carell, Jennifer Garner). Television work spans Getting On, Enlightened, The Office, Six Feet Under, Freaks and Geeks, Succession, Loot, The Morning Show, and The Last Thing He Told Me. Through Bob Industries he has directed Orville Redenbacher’s “Chris Angel” spot. Interviews describe actor-centered sets built around performances rather than camera coverage and a stripped-down approach to character.
