Bio & background

Michel Gondry is a French filmmaker and visual artist renowned for pioneering in-camera techniques and practical effects across commercials, music videos, and feature films. He directed the Levi's 501 Jeans "Drugstore" spot, recognized by Guinness World Records as the most awarded television commercial of all time, and invented the bullet-time technique for a 1996 Smirnoff commercial before its use in The Matrix. His commercial portfolio includes inventive campaigns for Apple iPhone, Nike basketball (five-spot series), Chanel, Louis Vuitton, John Lewis (2017 "Moz the Monster" Christmas campaign), HP, Coca-Cola, Gap, BMW, DoorDash, and Pandora. Gondry won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) and earned Best Director honors from the Toronto Film Critics Association, Online Film Critics Society, and Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association. His music video work includes eight collaborations with Björk—including Grammy-nominated "Bachelorette"—plus directing for Daft Punk ("Around the World"), The White Stripes ("Fell in Love with a Girl"), The Chemical Brothers ("Let Forever Be"), The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Kanye West, Radiohead, and Foo Fighters. He directed feature films including The Green Hornet (2011), Dave Chappelle's Block Party (2005), and the hand-drawn animated documentary Is the Man Who is Tall Happy? (2013). Currently working with Partizan across US, UK, and France markets, Gondry continues directing commercials alongside film projects.
