Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. is a Dutch commercial director repped by MJZ (US/UK), Soixante Quinze (France), and TPF Film (Germany). Since 1999 he has built one of Europe's most awarded commercial careers, helming work for Audi, BMW, Kia, Samsung, Heineken, Stella Artois, Coca-Cola, Canal+, Netflix, Apple, YouTube TV, Nike, and the NFL. His signature approach—dry absurdist comedy, ironic narrative structure, and cinematic craft—has earned Cannes Grand Prix wins for Canal+ "Closet" (2010) and "The Bear" (2012), plus Gold Cannes Lions, Clios, D&AD Pencils, and ADC Cubes. His 2017 Kia "Hero's Journey" Super Bowl spot starring Melissa McCarthy was voted best ad of the year. Samsung "Ostrich" (2017) won eight Cannes Lions for direction, VFX, and animation. He directed Audi's 2012 Super Bowl "Vampire Party" and Heineken's "Crack the Case" with Daniel Craig. Van Heijningen has also directed long-form projects including Universal's "The Thing" (2011) and Netflix's "The Forgotten Battle" (2020), which earned 70+ million views. He continues directing commercials while co-producing Dutch television including the 2024 miniseries "De Joodse Raad."
