Matt Piedmont is an Emmy-winning writer-director whose commercial work, long based at Prettybird (US and UK), centers on absurdist and performance comedy. He joined the Saturday Night Live writing staff at 25 and spent six seasons there (1996–2002), earning a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Writing. That foundation led to Funny or Die work, the Sundance Grand Jury Prize-winning short Brick Novax’s Diary (2011; also Aspen Ellen Award), and Variety’s 2012 “10 Directors to Watch” list. His feature debut was the Spanish-language telenovela spoof Casa de mi Padre (2012) with Will Ferrell, Diego Luna, and Gael García Bernal. He created and directed IFC’s The Spoils of Babylon and The Spoils Before Dying, and directed all episodes of Sherman’s Showcase, including one named among The New York Times’ Best TV Episodes of 2020. In advertising he is known for celebrity-driven comedy and musical conceits: Seventh Generation with Maya Rudolph (“Vajingle,” “Common Scents,” SHOOT most-viewed “Trees and B’s”), smartwater with Pete Davidson, H&M’s Hotel Mauritz holiday films with Aubrey Plaza, Extra Gum with Ashton Kutcher, Gain with Ty Burrell, Capital One with Jimmy Fallon, Sling TV’s Creativity Editor’s Pick “Dog’s Birthday Party,” Specsavers’ Canadian launch, Electrify America “JetStones,” LendingTree, Hefty, SunLife, plus bio-listed work for Pepsi, Budweiser/Bud Light, Lincoln, Volkswagen, Microsoft, AT&T, Verizon, HBO, and others. An AICP “Obsessed With Craft” short underscores his comedy-craft profile. He remains rostered at Prettybird for brand content.
