Bio & background

Martin Scorsese is an Oscar-winning director who has selectively directed commercials for prestige brands over five decades. His commercial work began in 1968 with Icelandic Airlines and Revlon, followed by two Giorgio Armani spots in 1986 shot by cinematographers Néstor Almendros and Michael Ballhaus. He directed Michael Jackson's 18-minute "Bad" music video in 1987, shot over six weeks in Brooklyn with cinematographer Michael Chapman and starring Wesley Snipes in his film debut. Scorsese directed American Express campaigns from 2003-2007, including a 2004 Tribeca Film Festival spot with Robert De Niro and the 2007 Members' Project featuring Alicia Keys, Ellen DeGeneres, Shaun White, Andre Agassi, and Sheryl Crow. In 2010, he created "THE FILM" for Chanel's Bleu de Chanel starring Gaspard Ulliel with cinematography by Stuart Dryburgh and Rolling Stones music. He directed a 2012 Apple iPhone 4S spot homaging Taxi Driver, a 2013 Dolce & Gabbana campaign with Matthew McConaughey and Scarlett Johansson, and a 2015 casino campaign reuniting him with Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Brad Pitt. His commercials bring cinematic rigor, A-list collaborators, and auteur storytelling to luxury brands.
