Bio & background

Leo Aguirre is a US-Mexico border-raised writer-director whose work spans commercials, music videos, and narrative film. Repped by Park Pictures (US/UK), PRIMO (Latin America/Spain), and WME for film/TV, Aguirre has directed campaigns for Nike ("You Can't Stop Our Voice"), Corona ("La Vida Más Fina"), Modelo ("Mark of a Fighter" via Grey New York), Red Wing (multiple campaigns including "Made The Hard Way"), Patrón Tequila ("Gracias a la Vida" with MullenLowe LA), Levi's ("Buy Better, Wear Longer" via AKQA), NIO ("Journey Ahead"), and Biofreeze. His music video clients include Becky G ("Como Diablos"), James Blake ("Not Long Now"), and River Tiber ("Hypnotized"). Aguirre's breakthrough came with the 2020 Vimeo Staff Pick short "No Somos De Aquí, Ni Somos De Allá," exploring biculturalism along the US-Mexico border. A multi-hyphenate who began as a photographer, cinematographer, and editor, he brings a craft-oriented, naturalistic visual sensibility to his work, often favoring diegetic sound and ambient audio over wall-to-wall music. His debut feature screenplay "Verano" earned the 2025-2026 Academy Nicholl Fellowship and NHK Award at Sundance 2026, and was developed at the 2025 Sundance Screenwriters & Directors Lab. Other honors include Cannes Young Directors Award nominee (2021), Ciclope New Talent finalist (2021), 1.4 Awards Silver (2021), and Young Guns 18 (2020). His work has been featured in AdAge, Filmmaker Magazine, Rolling Stone, Little Black Book, Shots, and NOWNESS. Aguirre emphasizes collaboration, identity-conscious storytelling, and a deeply personal approach rooted in his bicultural upbringing.
