Lalou Dammond and Joaquin Baca-Asay are the New York–based directorial duo Lalou & Joaquin, creative partners since 2006. Multi-hyphenates blending directing with cinematography, producing, and photography, they came up through independent film. Lalou worked as a creative producer on festival films and documentaries after studying film and photography at Princeton; Joaquin trained at NYU Tisch, shot the Oscar-nominated short The Lady in Waiting, and built a cinematography career including James Gray’s We Own the Night and Two Lovers, Mike Mills’s Thumbsucker, Super Troopers, and Jay-Z’s “99 Problems.” In advertising they have directed campaigns for Chase, Delta x YouTube, Budweiser, Charles Schwab, Pampers, Carter’s, FitBit, McDonald’s, Michelin, Nike, the NFL, Net 10, Apple, American Express, Toyota, and Chevrolet. Signature work includes the 2023 Budweiser Super Bowl spot “Six Degrees of Bud” (FCB New York)—a seamless one-take handheld piece narrated by Kevin Bacon and featuring Metro Boomin—plus the Covid-era short “F*** I Love NY,” NFL “The Ball,” Net 10 “Bill,” and the 2024 EducateUS PSA “Liberation.” Their first joint directing assignment, a pair of Nike spots, defined their filmmaking style. Recognition includes Cannes, Clios, AICP/MoMA, D&AD, Ciclope, Andys, One Show, Effies, and ADDYs, plus a DGA nomination for Outstanding Direction. After Biscuit Filmworks, they joined Chelsea Pictures for US and UK representation in May 2024.
