Kief Davidson is an Academy Award-nominated director and Emmy winner whose work spans prestige documentary and commercial branded content. A Brooklyn native and founder of Los Angeles-based Decoy Productions, he first gained major recognition with The Devil’s Miner (Rotterdam; DGA documentary nomination; FIPRESCI Prize) and Kassim the Dream (AFI Documentary and Audience awards). His HBO short Open Heart, following Rwandan children seeking cardiac surgery in Sudan, earned a Best Documentary Short Subject nomination at the 85th Academy Awards. Later nonfiction credits include co-directing The Ivory Game (Netflix; Leonardo DiCaprio EP; Oscar shortlist), Bending the Arc (Sundance; Matt Damon and Ben Affleck produced), A Lego Brickumentary, FX’s The Most Dangerous Animal of All, Netflix’s Meltdown: Three Mile Island, and the 2025 Netflix series Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing. In advertising—working with Believe Media, B-Reel, Park Pictures, and currently Moxie Pictures (US)—he has directed campaigns for GE (A Brilliant Grid), Toyota (Saving Sight / The Toyota Effect), Absolut (Miniatures), Facebook (Brian), American Express (John Legend), Cadillac, US Cellular (America), and Secret (Outlast). Trade coverage highlights his extraction of performances from real people and story-structure command in a docu-style, human-centered register.
