Bio & background

Kevan Funk is a Vancouver-based director whose work spans narrative film, music videos, and commercial storytelling. His feature debut *Hello Destroyer* premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to sold-out screenings, winning Best Picture, Directing, and Screenplay at the Leo Awards and earning four Canadian Screen Award nominations. The Calgary Herald described the hockey drama as a "sparse, quiet film" in the tradition of social realist Ken Loach. Funk has directed 23 music videos for artists including Charlotte Day Wilson, The New Pornographers, and A Tribe Called Red, winning the 2019 Prism Prize for Belle Game's "Low." His commercial portfolio includes campaigns for adidas, lululemon, Kia, and the Toronto Tempo WNBA team, where he directed "The Tempo of Toronto"—a 60-second film shot across multiple formats (35mm, Alexa, Hi8, iPhone) over eight days. He also created "The Bail Project" for the Bronx Freedom Fund, a highly stylized seven-minute film addressing cash bail injustice. An Emily Carr University graduate who self-edits much of his work, Funk favors Cooke anamorphic lenses and a "show, don't tell" approach that emphasizes authentic casting, music-driven storytelling, and social themes. He's known for run-and-gun production methods and thematic focus on institutional power and Canadian identity.
