Justin Kurzel is an Australian filmmaker and commercial director working with Biscuit Filmworks in the US and UK and by Revolver in Australia and New Zealand. He moved into a fuller commercial practice after the 2018 PSA “Stop the Horror” for Go Gentle Australia, which documented the final days of a terminally ill man, supported voluntary assisted dying reform, and won a Ciclope Grand Prix and Cannes Lions Gold for Film Craft/Direction. His advertising credits include NRMA Insurance, Volkswagen, TAC, R.M. Williams, Toyota Australia, Optus, Tourism Tasmania, NAB, Tooheys New, Dare Iced Coffee, R U OK Day, DrinkWise, Tena, I&J, Cricket Australia initiatives, Earth Hour (Cannes Lions Titanium, 2007), and the British Council (Cannes bronze, 2007). The work ranges from heartfelt, documentary-leaning social and mental-health films to automotive and road-safety spots, fashion-lifestyle brand films, and lighter comedic beer and CPG advertising. A former theatrical set designer trained at NIDA and VCA, he directed the short Blue Tongue before features including Snowtown (AACTA Best Director), Macbeth, Assassin’s Creed, Nitram (AACTA Best Film and Best Director), and The Order, plus Amazon’s The Narrow Road to the Deep North and Netflix’s Black Rabbit. He joined Biscuit in 2019 after prior US representation at Superprime.
