Bio & background

Jules Renault is a Paris-based director and photographer whose work bridges documentary authenticity with commercial craft, rooted in late 1990s hip-hop culture, street skating, and NYC's urban fabric. Self-taught through skate video production and music video work across Boston, New York, and Los Angeles, Renault embedded himself in Brooklyn's Crown Heights rap community in the mid-2010s, directing music videos for Bankaï Fam and building relationships that informed his documentary photography practice. His breakthrough Hennessy commercial in LA launched his advertising career. Returning to Paris, he directed the internationally celebrated "Outlaw Runners" campaign for Distance running store (2021), filming professional athletes triggering Paris speed cameras while rollerblading through streets—earning 45+ awards including Eurobest Grand Prix, two Cannes Lions Bronze, D&AD Graphite, and Clio Golds. His commercial portfolio includes Adidas Nite Jogger and Hardwired soccer campaigns, Nike, Reebok's "Confidence Unleashed," Jordan, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Club Med's "That's l'Esprit Libre," and a 17-minute Drake documentary. A multi-hyphenate who frequently edits his own work, Renault maintains an active documentary practice—his 2018 BBQ film "MELT. A Smoking Story" won Best of France at the Taste Awards—and pursues analog photography using vintage Polaroid cameras and expired film stock, culminating in his 2021 Crown Heights exhibition documenting Brooklyn gentrification. Now working with Knucklehead in the US and UK, he brings rhythmic, street-rooted visual language to brands willing to challenge convention.
