Bio & background

Josh Safdie is an American filmmaker who signed with Superprime Films in 2024 for his first-ever commercial representation. Born and raised between Queens and Manhattan, Safdie previously directed acclaimed independent features with his brother Benny, including Heaven Knows What (2015), Good Time (2017), and Uncut Gems (2019). The brothers won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Director and the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Director for Uncut Gems, along with the National Board of Review's Best Original Screenplay award. In 2024, Josh began pursuing solo directing work. His first solo feature in over a decade, Marty Supreme (2025) starring Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow, earned four Academy Award nominations including Best Picture and Best Director. Safdie co-wrote and co-edited the A24 film with frequent collaborator Ronald Bronstein. His commercial work includes a Nike spot celebrating the New York Knicks' NBA championship, created via Wieden+Kennedy Portland and set to Billy Joel's New York State of Mind. A diehard Knicks fan and Madison Square Garden regular, Safdie brought his signature visceral, spontaneous style to capture the energy of a NYC street celebration. Educated at Boston University's College of Communication (2007), Safdie has worked as director, writer, producer, editor, and actor across his career.
