Bio & background

Jorma Taccone is an American comedy writer, director, actor, and musician known as one-third of The Lonely Island with Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer. A UCLA Theater graduate, he rose at SNL as a writer-composer and director of Digital Shorts, earning a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for “Dick in a Box” and sharing in a Peabody tied to the 2008–2009 SNL season. He made his feature directorial debut with MacGruber (2010) and co-directed Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016), while directing comedy series including Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Last O.G., Miracle Workers, and the MacGruber series. Rostered at Caviar in Los Angeles for branded content, Taccone’s commercial work is comedy- and performance-led. Credits include multiple Pepsi spots (Steve Martin; Ben Stiller; the MacGruber Pepsi commercial for Super Bowl XLIII), Dr Pepper’s Fansville Intro, AT&T’s “It’s Not Complicated” wireless campaign (BBDO Atlanta) and “Deserve It,” and Walmart’s “Studio.” The through-line is celebrity handling, dialogue-led humor, and sketch-style comedy rather than action-sports, automotive, or tabletop craft. Public awards on record are overwhelmingly for SNL/music and film songwriting, not pure commercial-directing trophies.
