Jenn Nkiru is a London-born, Grammy Award-winning director known for her Afro-surrealist aesthetic and exploration of Blackness, time, and rhythm across commercials, music videos, documentaries, and gallery installations. She holds an MFA from Howard University and describes her practice as "cosmic archaeology," weaving archival material, sound, and movement into poetic visual essays. Nkiru won the 2021 Grammy for Best Music Video directing Beyoncé's "Brown Skin Girl" (also awarded a Cannes Lion, CICLOPE, NAACP Image Award, and Soul Train Music Award). She directed campaigns for Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, YSL Beauté, Masterclass, and Facebook, collaborating with agencies including BETC Etoile Rouge and Anomaly LA. Her short film "Rebirth Is Necessary" (2017) screened at Tate Modern, MoMA LA, and the Whitney Museum, and was selected for the 2019 Whitney Biennial. She won the inaugural AICP Best New Director honor in 2019 for "Black to Techno" (Gucci/Frieze). Her feature documentary debut "THE GREAT NORTH" (2024), exploring Black history and Manchester's architecture, premiered at Factory International and screened at IFFR 2025. She co-won the 2020 Jarman Award and directs through her own imprint MOTHERSHIP alongside representation at Iconoclast and Newland.
