Bio & background

Janicza Bravo is a writer, director, and producer working with Prettybird in the US and UK. Born in New York City to Panamanian parents and raised between Panama and Brooklyn, she trained in directing and design at NYU Tisch’s Playwrights Horizons Theater School and worked as a stylist and wardrobe designer before filmmaking in Los Angeles. She broke out with darkly comic shorts including Eat (SXSW), Sundance Short Film Jury Award winner Gregory Go Boom starring Michael Cera, Pauline Alone, and the VR piece Hard World for Small Things, then features Lemon (Sundance 2017) and A24’s Zola (Sundance 2020), co-written with Jeremy O. Harris from A’Ziah King’s Twitter thread. Prestige television credits include Atlanta, Love, Mrs. America, In Treatment, Them, Kindred, Poker Face, The Listeners, and The Bear’s “Worms,” which brought a Gracie Award and a DGA comedy-series directing nomination. Branded work through Prettybird includes Jordan Brand’s “All or Everything,” Skims x Nike “Bodies at Work,” the Miu Miu Women’s Tales short House Comes With a Bird, and Glamour’s Victoria Beckham Women of the Year film, plus a Prettybird/Wieden+Kennedy execution. Her commercial lane centers on fashion-lifestyle image-making and performance comedy.
