Jackie Bao is a Los Angeles–born cinematographer-turned-director represented for commercials by Biscuit Filmworks in the US and UK. She studied Photography and Human Rights at Bard College, continued at Carnegie Mellon, and trained in cinematography at the American Film Institute. After establishing herself as a DP—still represented for cinematography by WPA, with a preference for 16mm—she expanded into directing with the same emphasis on performance, pacing, and emotionally authentic scenes. Her breakthrough was 2022’s The Myth, a Wieden+Kennedy Portland short she directed and shot for Biscuit, addressing post-Covid anti-Asian hate and the model-minority stereotype; it won AdColor Ad of the Year, a Cannes Silver Film Lion, Webby and People’s Voice Webby honors, and a One Club One Screen craft award. Brand work includes Nike/Jordan, Ritual, Ralph Lauren, La Mer, an Olympics spot for Gillette Venus, an NPR multi-film campaign, and Fuck Cancer. In the UK she directed Tommy’s “Projecting Life” (Shadows) with Special London—using shadows and reflections of children to convey baby loss—earning Young Director Awards 2025 Silver and dual Creative Circle Golds. Narrative shorts have screened at Tribeca, HollyShorts, and AAIFF. Biscuit announced her global commercial roster signing in January 2025.
