Henry Lu is a commercial and documentary director based between New York and Toronto, represented in the US by Moxie Pictures and in Canada by Soft Citizen. A former producer at Wieden + Kennedy Portland and Tokyo, he signed with Moxie in 2003. His commercial work includes multiple Google Search On and Grow with Google films—among them Skatepark (72andSunny), Blind Woodturner, Glam Doll Donuts, Agrology, and Interview Warmup—plus campaigns for Nike, ESPN, Skype, Ford, VW, Powerade, Deutsche Telekom, Pizza Hut (2013 Super Bowl spot per Moxie), History Channel, Leon’s, Nabob, Open Wine, Enbridge Gas, RBC, Mitsubishi, War Child Canada, and the Canadian Olympic Committee. Trade coverage highlights the 2012 War Child PSA “Jam” (john st.), in which wartime violence resolves into crayons and children’s drawings, and the COC’s #WeAreWinter platform for Sochi 2014—TV spots and athlete mini-documentaries including Crossroads on Kaillie Humphries—plus Olympic athlete training web series for 2012 and 2014. His feature documentary RUN TO THE EAST, on Native American high-school runners, won an Indie Spirit Award; Google Search On shorts earned Webbys, and WoodTurner was shortlisted at the 2022 AICP Next Awards. Signature work favors patient, cinematic observation of real people over high-concept comedy or effects.
