Freddy Mandy is a commercial director known for cinematic world-building, underplayed humor, and visual effects work that marries epic American filmmaking with deadpan British wit. He began his career as a creative at Mother London, where he worked on surrealist IKEA campaigns including 'Beds' and 'Cats,' which featured hundreds of cats set loose in a store. After years learning on set, he transitioned to directing with a Halfords campaign that won metal at Cannes. Operating as half of The Bobbsey Twins From Homicide until April 2024, he became known for absurd humor and killer characters, including the viral MoneySuperMarket spot featuring He-Man and Skeletor dancing to 'Time of My Life.' His award-winning work includes the VFX-heavy LEGO 'Rebuild the World,' the clever Dos Equis 'The Comeback,' and H&R Block 'Ex-wife' featuring awkward dialogue about a man whose ex-wife still does his taxes. Named Shots Director of the Year Pacific in 2022, Mandy has directed campaigns for Tourism New Zealand, MoneySuperMarket, Cheetos, Doritos, BBC iPlayer, and Google/YouTube TV for Super Bowl LX. Now working with SMUGGLER globally and FINCH in Australia/New Zealand, he is an intuitive performance director with a strong creative voice and command of craft.
