Eugen Merher is a Moldovan-born, Germany-raised writer and director currently based in Los Angeles. A graduate of Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg's Commercial Directing program (2020), he has directed commercial work for Bayer, Disasters Emergency Committee, Deutsche Telekom, Mercedes, and Tennent's. His emotionally charged, cinematic approach draws on influences from 1990s cinema, particularly Luc Besson's "Leon: The Professional." Merher's short film "The Boy Who Couldn't Feel Pain" (2023) earned him a Young Director Award, CICLOPE Gold for New Talent in Directing, and Short Film Grand Prix at Kinsale. He is a Student Academy Award nominee and two-time Vimeo Staff Pick alum. His music video for Rudimental x Charlotte Plank received CICLOPE and UKMVA nominations. During his student years, his spec commercials for Adidas ("Break Free," 2016) and Kindle ("The Funeral," 2017) went viral, earning coverage in AdWeek and Fast Company. His student work also won honors at the 2019 AICP Show for spots promoting DSD-Deutsche Stammzellspenderdatei and Calvin Klein Underwear. He shot the independent short "motociclista" (2022) on 16mm film in Uruguay. Merher serves on the CICLOPE 2026 jury and is working with Academy Films (UK), tempomedia (Germany), and HILLTON (Switzerland).
