Doug Nichol is a Grammy Award-winning director and cinematographer whose career spans music documentaries, music videos, and hundreds of global commercials. After graduating from USC's School of Cinematic Arts, he served as cinematographer on landmark concert films including U2's "Rattle and Hum" (1988) and Madonna's "Truth or Dare" (1991), developing his signature handheld, natural-light style. He directed Sting's "Ten Summoner's Tales" (1993), a 54-minute performance film that won the 1994 Grammy for Best Long Form Music Video. His music video for Aerosmith's "Pink" (1997) earned the MTV Video Music Award for Best Rock Video and a Grammy nomination, while Pulp's "This Is Hardcore" (1998) was ranked among the greatest music videos of all time by Time and NME for its film noir-inspired visuals. Nichol's commercial work includes campaigns for Levi's, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Microsoft MSN, Virgin Mobile, Smirnoff, Heineken, Sony Ericsson, American Express, and Target, with spots like Levi's controversial "Hamster" (1998, BBH) and the Pets.com Super Bowl XXXIV ad "Don't Go" (TBWA/Chiat/Day). His 2016 feature documentary "California Typewriter," featuring Tom Hanks and John Mayer, premiered at Telluride and earned directing honors at the 2017 Newport Beach Film Festival. He is working with Partizan globally.
