Bio & background

Diego Robino is a Uruguayan producer and commercial director who co-founded Oriental Films and Cimarrón Cine, two of Latin America's leading production companies. Born in Montevideo, Robino studied Communication Sciences at Universidad Católica before launching Oriental Films with Charlie Gutiérrez in 2006. Oriental quickly became a market leader in Mexico and expanded offices across Chile, Colombia, and the United States, earning recognition at Ojo de Iberoamérica and a Cannes Lion for production services. In 2016, Robino co-founded Cimarrón with Santiago López and Argentine producer Hernán Musaluppi, building a production-services powerhouse that has worked with Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and HBO Max. Cimarrón produced or serviced J.A. Bayona's Oscar-nominated Society of the Snow, Daniel Burman's Rose d'Or Latino-winning Yosi, the Regretful Spy, Amazon's Club Hooligans, and festival selections including Paula Hernández's A Ravaging Wind (Toronto, San Sebastian) and Federico Veiroj's The Moneychanger (Toronto Platform). In 2023, The Mediapro Studio acquired Cimarrón in a major deal, with Robino retaining leadership and total creative freedom. As president of CEPPU, Robino champions Uruguay's PUA fiscal incentive program and collaborated with government officials to establish COVID-19 protocols that made Uruguay one of the first countries to resume filming in July 2020.
