Darius Marder is a Brooklyn-based writer-director working in documentary, narrative features, and branded content. His 2008 documentary Loot won Best Documentary at the Los Angeles Film Festival, received five Cinema Eye Award nominations, and a Film Independent Spirit Award nomination for Truer than Fiction. He co-wrote The Place Beyond the Pines (2012) with Derek Cianfrance and Ben Coccio (Penn Literary Award, 2014). Narrative directorial debut Sound of Metal (2019/2020), starring Riz Ahmed and released by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures International, earned six Academy Award nominations including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay, winning Best Film Editing and Best Sound; further honors include a Golden Globe nomination, three Independent Spirit nominations, Gotham Independent Film Award, Zurich Golden Eye for Best International Feature, DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a First-Time Feature Film, and Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. working with Caviar (US/UK/Belgium/France), his commercials include McDonald’s/FIFA “Wanna Go To McDonald’s?,” Verizon “Enterprise Intelligence,” Facebook Portal “Sisters” and “Laugh Cry,” ADT + Google “Midnight Serenade,” TENA #NoLoveLikeIt (AMV BBDO), and Sure/Degree/Rexona “Not Done Yet” (2022).
