Daniel Askill is an Australian-born filmmaker whose work spans music videos, commercials, fashion films, and features. He co-founded Collider, a multidisciplinary production studio in Sydney in 2001, and studied at Central Saint Martins in London, where he worked on design projects for Alexander McQueen. His surreal short film We Have Decided Not to Die (2004) won awards at Clermont-Ferrand, Melbourne International, Brooklyn International, and South by Southwest. Askill's collaboration with Sia produced cultural landmarks including Chandelier (2014) and Elastic Heart (2015), which together generated over three billion views and earned Grammy and MTV VMA nominations. He has directed music videos for Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Leonard Cohen, Flume, and Caroline Polachek. His commercial work includes campaigns for Audi, BMW, Lincoln, Cadillac, Genesis, Nissan, Hyundai, Chanel, Dior, Alexander McQueen, Apple, Xbox, Facebook, and The New York Times. He shot Lady Gaga's Stupid Love entirely on iPhone 11 Pro and created a VR experience for The New York Times featuring Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Melissa McCarthy, and Benicio del Toro. His video installations have been exhibited at Palais de Tokyo, ICA London, and Venice Biennale. Askill made his feature debut with psychological thriller Lunacy (2024) and is co-directing the concert film Sia: Nostalgic for the Present (2026). He is working with Serial Pictures and Anonymous Content in the US, AKKURAT in Europe, and Radical Media in Germany.
