D.A.R.Y.L.
D.A.R.Y.L. is the directing partnership of James Hall and Edward Lovelace, a UK-based duo represented globally by Sweetshop. The pair met at film school in Northern England and began their careers making no-budget documentaries and music videos before legendary producer Alan McGee brought them into commercial filmmaking. Their work spans character-driven commercials and feature-length documentaries, with a focus on authentic human storytelling. Commercial clients include Volvo, for whom they directed extended narrative films 'Human Made Stories: Birdman' (7:50) and 'The Unseen Ocean' (5:30), as well as Mercedes-Benz, Progressive Insurance, Lipton Green Tea, Otto, and Right Move. Documentary work includes the Katy Perry concert film 'Part of Me' and 'Name Me Lawand.' Their approach combines documentary sensibility with commercial craft, favoring real-people performances and intimate emotional portraits. The duo's versatility extends from thirty-second spots to multi-minute brand films and feature documentaries, all unified by what Sweetshop describes as 'a treasure hunt for the heart of the human story.' They are represented in Los Angeles by George Meeker and Jeff Miller.
