Bio & background

Colin Read is a New York-based director who built his career in skateboard filmmaking before transitioning into commercials and music videos. After earning an MFA in creative writing from NYU, he directed award-winning skateboarding films including "Tengu: God of Mischief" (2013) and "Spirit Quest" (2016), both winning Independent Film of the Year honors from Transworld Skateboarding and The Skateboard Mag. His work is characterized by complex camera movements and intricate editing, drawing on 20 years of personal skating experience to create dynamic motion shots. Read has directed for Apple, Google, Nike, Burberry, META, Adobe, Samsung, Converse, ESPN, and Champion, alongside music videos for Radiohead, Glass Animals, Weezer, Danny Brown, and Battles. During COVID-19 lockdown, he created Glass Animals' "Dreamland" video by remotely directing vocalist Dave Bayley through a 40-page instruction manual. His work has earned seven Vimeo Staff Picks, Berlin MVA Gold for Best Editor (Danny Brown "3 Tearz"), UKMVA for Best Electronic/Dance Video (Mild Minds "Walls"), Clio Silver (Viceland), and an MTV VMA nomination (Glass Animals "Heat Waves"). He is working with Pulse Films in the US and UK, and The Sweetshop in APAC markets.
