Bio & background

Chris Cunningham is a British video artist and music video director working with MJZ in the US and UK. He began his career in film special effects, working on Alien³ (1992) and Judge Dredd (1995), which led Stanley Kubrick to recruit him to design animatronic prototypes for A.I. Artificial Intelligence. Transitioning to directing in the mid-1990s, Cunningham created iconic music videos for Aphex Twin ("Come to Daddy," "Windowlicker"), Björk ("All Is Full of Love"), Madonna ("Frozen"), and Squarepusher. "All Is Full of Love" won an MTV Music Video Award for Breakthrough Video, became the first music video to win a Gold Pencil at D&AD Awards, and is permanently displayed at MoMA. His commercial work includes Sony PlayStation's "Mental Wealth" (1999), Nissan's "Engine" (1999), and Gucci's "Flora" perfume (2009), for which he produced a new version of "I Feel Love" with Donna Summer. Known for robotics, body horror, and precise synchronization of action to music, Cunningham has also exhibited video art installations at the Royal Academy, Venice Biennale, and Barbican, while developing live audiovisual performances and producing music for the Horrors.
