Bio & background

Charlotte Wells is a BAFTA and DGA award-winning writer-director working with MJZ (US/UK) and TPF (Germany). She entered commercial directing in February 2024 with Quaker Oats' global "You've Got This" campaign via Uncommon Creative Studio—a 2-minute emotional narrative following a father and son through life stages, adapted for markets across Canada, Latin America, and additional territories. In July 2024, she directed American Red Cross blood donation campaigns "What's Your Type?" and "Growing Up," the latter targeting Hispanic audiences with intimate family moments. She also directed Romy's "Always Forever" music video (May 2024) and a Vodafone "Ride" spot. Wells' 2022 feature debut *Aftersun* earned her Best Director honors from BAFTA, the Directors Guild of America, and the National Society of Film Critics, among 33 awards from 121 nominations. Shot on 35mm with MiniDV sequences, the film premiered at Cannes Critics' Week and secured Paul Mescal an Oscar nomination. Her NYU shorts *Laps* (Sundance 2017 Special Jury Award for Editing) and *Blue Christmas* (Savannah 2018 Best Student Short) established her focus on familial bonds, memory, and time's passage. Wells holds degrees in classics and finance (King's College London, Oxford) and a dual MBA/MFA from NYU Tisch/Stern. She previously ran Digital Orchard, a post-production agency, informing her technical approach.
