Bio & background

Caroline Suh is a Korean-American documentary director and producer represented in the US by Chelsea Pictures. Her 2008 SXSW-premiering feature Frontrunners applied verité techniques—no narration, unpolished dialogue—to a Stuyvesant High School student-body election as a microcosm of national politics. She directed The 4%: Film’s Gender Problem and Iconoclasts episodes, then directed and executive-produced Netflix’s Cooked and the Emmy-nominated, James Beard Award-winning Salt Fat Acid Heat (2018), pairing Samin Nosrat’s culinary science with global travel. In 2020 she directed Netflix’s Blackpink: Light Up the Sky via extended interviews humanizing the K-pop group. She spent three years developing and directing the 2023 Netflix series Working: What We Do All Day with Barack Obama and Higher Ground, and co-directed the New York Times documentary Sorry/Not Sorry on #MeToo accountability in comedy. Commercial credits include Liberty Mutual’s “Town Gold” (Hill Holiday) and Walmart’s “Justin & Norman” (Deutsch). Her work favors observational intimacy and subject-driven storytelling across features, series, and spots.
