Bradford Young, ASC is an Oscar-nominated cinematographer who moved into commercial directing with the 2021 Channel 4 Paralympics launch Super. Human, produced by Serial Pictures x Somesuch with 4Creative. The three-minute film intercuts GB Paralympians’ athletic performance with intimate scenes of daily struggle, family life, vulnerability and humor, using high-end VFX, stock animation and a reworked Bugsy Malone track. It won the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials, shots EMEA Ad of the Year for Direction, a Cannes Lions Film Grand Prix plus three further Lions, two Young Director Award Golds, and multiple British Arrows nominations. Subsequent Serial Pictures spots include Toyota’s You Can’t Stop My Drive and Olympics Together Wins, Beats’ The King The Viking, Chase’s Exceptional Experiences, Facebook’s Black Health Matters, and Dick’s Sporting Goods’ multi-spot Who Will You Be campaign (4:45am, School Pickup, The Firefly, Choices, One Shot, One More Rep, Push Through, First Drop). His commercial work draws on graphic interiority and athletic physicality from his fine-art practice and Howard University training. He balances directing with cinematography (Selma, Arrival—first African-American Oscar cinematography nominee—Solo, When They See Us) and is based in Baltimore.
