Bernd Faass is a German commercial director known for blending cinematic production value with dry, absurdist comedy. A graduate of Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, he spent years managing commercial budgets exceeding $150 million before transitioning to directing. His 2018 short Tears in Heaven—created for his own Tears Dry Gin brand—won the Cannes Young Director Award and four Clio Golds (Best Student Director, Film, Cinematography, Visual Effects). His commercial work has earned two Deutscher Werbefilmpreis Golds for RVR's Falling Down (Best Script, Best Production Design, 2021), a Cannes Corporate Media Gold for Porsche's Wetmode (2020), and ADC Germany honors for Sparkasse's Nicht Doch. Faass has directed for HP, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, iShares, Etsy, Lidl, and Toyota, collaborating with agencies including AKQA Berlin and DDB San Francisco. His HP Work Anywhere spot, shot across Slovenia, imagined remote work from mountaintops and horseback; his iShares Subway film used surreal visual metaphor to explore investing. A writer-director who regularly collaborates with cinematographers Markus Gebhart and Jens Spöri, Faass also directed the BET Her romantic comedy Back To The Goode Life (2019). He is an ADC Germany member and lives in southern Germany, where he distills gin in his basement.
