Ben Wheatley is a British filmmaker and commercial director whose advertising practice runs alongside cult features Kill List, Sightseers, High-Rise, Free Fire, Netflix’s Rebecca, and Meg 2: The Trench. Early viral work including Cunning Stunt led to marketing content that took a Cannes Lions award in 2006, then TV comedy (Ideal, The Wrong Door, Modern Toss, Shooting Stars) before his self-financed debut Down Terrace (2009). Documented commercial credits include Premier Inn (Aunt Mabel; Presentation), Thomas Cook, T-Mobile (Balcony), Heineken, Clearscore (Claw), Go Compare (Dog Money Brand), and Carlton Dry (Rocket Car). In a 2016 Shots interview he framed ads as technical and storytelling challenges that moved from realistic camcorder jobs toward humour-driven scripts after Sightseers. He has directed Doctor Who episodes and Strange Angel for CBS, with Generation Z in preproduction for Channel 4 and experimental stop-frame/model work on Bulk. He is on the Moxie Pictures US roster and was added to Merman’s branded team in late 2025.
