Bio & background

Baz Luhrmann is an Australian writer-director whose advertising work centers on high-budget fashion and tourism branded films. He directed Chanel’s No. 5 The Film (2004) starring Nicole Kidman, a piece widely credited with advancing modern branded content and holding a Guinness record for commercial budget; he later directed Chanel N°5: The One That I Want (2014) with Gisele Bündchen. Fashion credits also include ERDEM x H&M’s The Secret Life of Flowers (2017) and the 2012 Metropolitan Museum suite tied to Schiaparelli and Prada (Impossible Conversations and related shorts). He directed Tourism Australia campaign work around 2008. Feature work includes the Red Curtain Trilogy (Strictly Ballroom, Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!), The Great Gatsby (two Oscars for design; over $353M worldwide), and Elvis (eight Oscar nominations including Best Picture). He works with production/costume designer Catherine Martin under Bazmark, holds a Warner Bros. first-look deal, and was appointed Companion of the Order of Australia in 2025. Commercial output is selective rather than high-volume spot work.
