Baloji is a Congolese-Belgian director, musician and art director based in Ghent. After emerging as MC Balo with platinum-selling hip-hop group Starflam and releasing solo albums including gold-certified Hotel Impala, he moved into self-financed short films and hybrids—Kaniama Show, Zombies (Oberhausen Principal Prize; MUBI Best Short) and Peau de Chagrin/Bleu de Nuit—often composing his own scores and blurring music video, fiction and art piece. His feature debut Omen (Augure, 2023), shot in Congo with DP Joachim Philippe, premiered in Cannes Un Certain Regard and won the New Voice Prize; it became Belgium’s Oscar submission for Best International Feature and collected Best African Feature at Durban, the CineRebels Award in Munich and Best First Feature at the Africa Movie Academy Awards. Companion visual album AUGURE: Infinite Trolling won Best Special Visual Project at the 2024 UK Music Video Awards. In commercials he directed a 2021 Hennessy film for DDB via Loveboat—giving voice to pan-African entrepreneurs and composing the music—plus a Patta x Nike campaign and Nike The Wave. He signed with Prettybird for UK and US representation in September 2025, with UTA signing after Omen and ties noted to Academy Films.
